Overview:  Up for sale is this very neat woodblock print, "Maiko Playing Hand Drum," by Sadanobu Hasegawa III. Sadanobu was a very distinguished midcentury printmaker descended from a long line of printmakers. This artist primarily focused on traditional Japanese subjects, particularly Japanese theater, historical events and (like here) beautiful Japanese women. I believe this print was produced by the artist and distributed through the Uchida publishing company. It dates to the 1950s. Print appears to be original to the 1950s as well. It really presents a nice slice of Japanese life and would make an excellent addition at any ukiyo-e collection.  It comes matted in the original folio (tipped to the matting along the right edge).

Condition:  The print and matting are in very good condition.

Measurements:  Print measures approximately 11.125 inches high by 8.25 inches wide.  Matting measures 13.625 inches high x 10.125 inches wide.

Japanese MCM Woodblock Print by Sadanobu Hasegawa III "Maiko Playing Hand Drum”

Overview:  Up for sale is a small woodblock print by acclaimed Japanese print artist, Junichiro Sekino (1914-1988). Sekino was a very famous printmaker, known for a variety of works including Kabuki theater subjects, cityscapes and other traditional subjects, undertaken in a modern style.  This miniature print is entitled, "Roof Tiles of Florence," and was produced in 1959.  This print is tipped to a backing card.  No signature or other markings.  An exquisite and rare piece that any Sekino collector would love.

Condition:  The print and backing card are in excellent condition.

Measurements:  Print measures approximately 6.375 inches high x 4.375 inches wide. Backing card measures 7 inches high x 5.125 inches wide.

1959 Japanese Woodblock Print "Roof Tiles Of Florence" by Junichiro Sekino

Overview:  Up for sale is a small woodblock print by acclaimed Japanese print artist, Junichiro Sekino (1914-1988). Sekino was a very famous printmaker, known for a variety of works including Kabuki theater subjects, cityscapes and other traditional subjects, undertaken in a modern style.  This miniature print is a known Sekino print, but I have not seen it titled anywhere.  It depicts a snowy, lit house in winter.  Block-signed at lower right.  A really nice miniature print that any Sekino collector would love.

Condition:  The print is in very good condition.  Very slight rumple at upper right.  Minor wear.

Measurements:  Print measures approximately 6.125 inches high x 4.25 inches wide.

JUNICHIRO SEKINO (1914-1988) Small Japanese Woodblock Print Winter House

Overview:  Up for sale is this very neat woodblock print, "Princess Yaegaki" by Sadanobu Hasegawa III. Sadanobu was a very distinguished midcentury printmaker descended from a long line of printmakers. This artist primarily focused on traditional Japanese subjects, particularly Japanese theater (as here), historical events and beautiful Japanese women. This print was produced by the artist and distributed through the Uchida publishing company and bears the "Uchida" watermark at lower right. This print depicts Princess Yaegaki, one of the characters in the Noh play, Honcho Nijushiko.  It dates to the 1950s. Print is attached to the original publisher's matting (at bottom right and top-right corners) and includes the publisher's description of the print.

Condition:  Print and matting are in very good condition.

Measurements:  Print measures approximately 17.75 inches high by 11.5 inches wide.  Matting measures 19.25 inches high x 13.625 inches wide.
