New growth starts out darker creating a beautiful contrast.

Opuntias require maximum sunlight and should be kept in direct sunlight whenever possible.

Very little water is required. These drought-resistant plants grow best in hot, dry areas, excessive water could cause them to rot.

Well draining gritty soil

Opuntias can be propagated either by cuttings or by seed. To propagate by cuttings, sever pads from a plant and let them dry so the wounds heal. Place the plants in dry soil, and refrain from watering until they begin to grow to avoid rotting.

Use gloves and caution when handling.

Engelmann Prickly Pear Cactus Pads Medium (7”-10”)

Variegated Joseph's Coat (Opuntia monacantha f. monstruosa variegata): Prickly pear cactus with interesting green and creamy white variegation, sometimes flushed with pink. The pad-like stems of this cactus create offshoots and stack up if given room to grow. This plant can take a bit more frequent water than most cacti, but does need full sun and excellent drainage to thrive.

CAUTION: Opuntia species have fine, barbed bristles called glochids. Glochids easily detach and can become loose in the box during shipping. They will pierce skin and leather gloves, so use tongs when handling.

 Santa Rita prickly pears have round, reddish-purple pads that grow to eight inches.

 The color of the pads intensifies when the plant is stressed by cold weather or drought conditions.

During the summer months, the pads are a softer bluish-gray color. 

The flowers are orange-red in color and appear in late spring. After flowering, the plant develops an oblong, purple, plump fruit. 

Some varieties have spines that are very long, like you see in this listing!!!

This variety likes sparse watering, with supplemental during the hot summer months.

Prickly Pear Beautiful Edible Cactus

This listing is for a beautiful South Texas Prickly Pear Cactus from the Opuntia Lindheimeri genus. 

The cactus is a cutting. 

I have used a growth hormone where it was cut, and by the time you receive it, it will be scabbed over and ready to be planted in the dirt. This cactus is in the shape of a heart and has grown this way naturally.  

This variety of cactus is super hardy.  It is  draught-resistant, heat-resistant, and cold-resistant, making it easy to care for. The plant prefers full sun and can grow in rock, sand, and dirt. Prickly Pear does require well draining soil.  This cactus has gorgeous yellow flowers, and both the fruit and the pads are edible.  

Please note that this plant has thorns.  Forr safety purposes, please ensure you handle this cactus carefully upon delivery and when planting.  I personally use long handled tongs and gloves when handling them.

Silver Cholla Cactus, Cylindropuntia Echinocarpa; this plant pack is a usps large box full, 12"x12"x6" of cacti cuttings. Each cutting can grow into a large cholla tree producing hundreds of cuttings a year. Native to the mojave desert and California. I grow them on my farm & when I see people tossing them out I also bring them to my farm to grow them. Don't have many, but I provide some cuttings every year. 

It has always been cared for and has never gotten treated with any chemicals or fertilizers other then organic mulch. Never used pesticides or insecticides on it. 

Also produces small prickly pears. The spines are also easier to peel off for when you want to cook them, since they are large and easy to see. 

These plants can also be used as landscaping plants as they are drought tolerant & care free species. They only need to be watered once a week for a year then once a month after that unless it rains, then you don’t need to water.
