This is an original vintage oil painting on board by Massachusetts Artist Richard Kerber depicting a nautical scene, with a large sailing ship in a choppy ocean. 

This is a classic maritime style, one that is so rarely seen nowadays. A wide array of blue patterns creates a calming image and at the same time projects a feeling of freedom. 

Framed measuring  24.5" x 20.5" & painting measures 20" x 16". 

Condition: The painting has some dirty areas, the frame has wearing signs.

Vtg 1980's “DAVID DOWS" Ship Great Lakes Artist J. Clary 180/750 Signed In Pencil Maritime Art Framed

This piece is from our large collection of vintage Great Lakes art.

We have several of J. Clary works of art,  all of them were purchased in the early 1980's at the Coach House Art Gallery in Indian Village,  Detroit, Michigan.   The gallery was owned by Nona Herzog.

The history of the "David Dows" is typed on the back of the piece.

Sunk:  29 November,  1889.

The David Dows was the grandest cargo schooner ever to sail the Great Lakes and at the time .  was the largest 5 mastered schooner in the world. 

It was the only five master on the Great Lakes,  the David Dows was launched from Toledo, Ohio with a wieldy 265 feet in length.

Biography of J. Clary:

Artist Jim Clary was an avid shipwreck historian and enthusiast, and he took part in the 1981 search to find the wreck of the Titanic.
